We have published more than 2,100 maps in our series of Old Ordnance Survey Map reprints, including a large group in Lancashire. The maps are highly detailed. They are taken from the OS 1:2,500 (or 25 inch) maps and reduced to about 15 inches to the mile. Each covers an area of a mile and a half by a mile. They show streets with individual houses, tram tracks, railway tracks and even signals, factories, wharves and such details as fountains and water troughs. They will provide hours of fascination for historians and genealogists. The maps are neatly folded and each includes a specially written introduction to the area. Here are the details of maps for Levenshulme:
This detailed map covers most of Levenshulme, south of Manchester. Coverage stretches from Slade Lane eastward to Houldsworth Street, and from Crowcroft Park southward to Broom Lane End. Features include a stretch of the GCR railway with Levenshulme station, a stretch of the LNWR main line with Levenshulme station, Rushford Park, Atlas Tool Works, Back Levenshulme, St Agnes church, Slade Hall, Coston Park, Alma Park, Levenshulme Bleach Works, Levenshulme Print Works, Albert Mill, Print Works Farm, etc. A small section of the Stockport Branch canal is in the SE corner, with cotton mill and chemical works. On the reverse we include street directory entries for Albert Road, Mayfield Road, Stockport Road.
The map links up with sheets 104.16 Gorton to the north, 111.03 Fallowfield to the west, 112.01 North Reddish to the east and 111.08 Heaton Chapel to the south.
