For our next group of maps in Yorkshire we are heading to Kirklees, for ten maps of Huddersfield and District.
This group will follow the pattern established in recent subscriptions in Leeds, York and Doncaster, and include six 25-inch maps from the early 20th century, expanding and deepening our current coverage of the Huddersfield area, and four highly detailed large scale plans of central Huddersfield from 1848-49, taken from the OS 5-foot plans. In 1844 Friedrich Engels described Huddersfield as the most handsome of the northern 'factory towns' and the town plans will show the town that he knew. Each map will also include a specially written introduction to the history of the area.
The first maps are due to be published in September, and we expect to complete the group within six months. They will normally be published two at a time. The first map is expected to be of Slaithwaite, with an introduction by Martin Handley.
Note that this subscription is essentially for new maps, not those already available or published. For those maps for the area already published, visit the relevant Kirklees page. This special offer is for UK customers only. We hope you will join us in subscribing to our new Huddersfield group and supporting this continuing project. Quite simply, the more maps we sell, and the more subscribers we have, the more we can publish!
