Our group of 6 maps for Portsmouth is among the most successful in our series. A city of rich contrasts, with its naval base (although sadly the actual dockyard is left blank for security reasons here), a significant seaside resort, a distinctive 'old town', Portsmouth provides us with 6 fascinating maps, perhaps of especial interest to those of us who remember it in the 1950s and '60s, before the redevelopment of the town centre.
Each map includes an introduction to the history of the area; the Eastney map is double-sided to give additional coverage, but all the rest include extracts from contemporary directories. We are very grateful to Portsmouth Archives for encouraging and helping us with these maps.
