Oh dear! I have missed the deadline for the February Newsletter. Absences over the last fortnight in Dortmund and London have eaten away at my time. And exhaustion on my return left my with little mental energy left on Monday the 28th. But better late than never.
The main thing to mention is Olympia, where I was able to meet several of you at the Who do you think you are Family History Show. Chris Makepeace was running a stall with a large selection of our maps - I think he had every available title - and I helped him out, with a couple of friends. It seemed to be very busy!
Of course, several history societies had the maps for their areas, while CAB Search also had a comprehensive selection - and they seemed to be very busy too, as this photo shows!
Chris was delighted at the wide range of sales and enquiries. Heavy sales of the main London maps are to be expected but there was also a lot of interest in the maps for Northern Ireland, and sales of the Inch to the Mile sheets were also much higher than expected. The new colour-printed map of Hanley 1877 drew a very favourable response (at least, on the Friday, when we sold all the copies we'd taken!) Work is proceeding on more titles, with a companion sheet for Burslem 1877 currently at the printers.
We have also just brought out our first colour-printed map in Ireland, for the Inch to the Mile sheet 34 Mid Tyrone 1900. We think this has come out especially well and though we cannot promise to issue many more colour-printed maps in that series, we think the map will appeal to those interested in old maps per se, as well as those with an interest in this area of Mid Ulster.
