Old Ordnance Survey Maps of Essex
Essex is a complicated series, because in the 20th century the series was reorganised as the
'new series', on different sheetlines. However on this page I have listed them all together; 'new series' maps have an 'n' after
the sheet number.
I have, however, divided them into two groups:
the towns in the present Essex county, and those within the old GLC area, such as Romford and Barking, the so-called 'London-in-Essex'.
Each map includes an introduction and most also have extracts from an early
directory. Note that there is a group of 3 maps for Colchester. Further details about individual titles are given in our
